Philippe Griffiths scored 20 points and Noel Obusan added 13 as GM dusted Manassas Park 68-51 Thursday at MP for their fifth straight win. Nate Ogle added 9 for Mason, who now stand alone in first place after the first round of Bull Run District games at 6-1. William Monroe is also 6-1 but lost to Mason Tuesday. Clarke County beat Madison County 56-53 Thursday night to take over third at 5-2 while MC is fourth, also at 5-2.
Mason (11-3 overall) shook off a sluggish first half and broke the game open in the third quarter, turning a 35-25 halftime lead into a 55-35 lead after three periods. Griffiths scored 7 and Rand Walter added all 5 of his markers in the stanza as the Stangs put the game away entering the fourth.
GM hosts Madison County Wednesday night in a pivotal BRD game before heading to Clarke County Friday for an equally important contest. Madison dealt the Mustangs their only BRD loss 57-53 a month ago, while Mason edged the undersized yet physical Eagles 50-42 at home two days later. Tip for both games is at 7:45.
