Senior point guard Noel Obusan scored 17 points, dished out 4 assists and grabbed 4 rebounds to lead GM to a 50-42 win over Clarke County Thursday at MEH. Philippe Griffiths added 10 points and 4 steals, and Eion Oosterbaan chipped in 8 points and 2 assists for Mason.
The Mustangs (4-2, 1-1 BRD) blitzed the Eagles (3-4, 1-1) at the start of the third quarter, going on a 12-0 run in the first 1:30 of the stanza to turn a 2-point halftime deficit into a 10-point lead. Clarke answered back with a 6-0 run of their own and the game remained close until the final 4 minutes. Jeremy Stewart, coming off a broken left thumb that sidelined him for four weeks, scored 6 points, and Dmitri Venets added 5 and 4 steals. Leading scorer Nate Ogle was held to only 2 points on 1-2 shooting as Clarke doubled teamed him most of the night, and Obusan capitalized on the open space created, leading to his big game.
GM takes on Central-Woodstock Tuesday at MEH, game time is 7:45.
