Senior Philippe Griffiths poured in 27 points to lead four Mustangs in double figures as his team rebounded from an opening night loss, beating Heritage 74-62 Friday night. Mason (1-1) jumped out to an early lead and trailed only once, at 7-6, in garnering the victory. Noel Obusan scored 16, Eion Oosterbaan 14 and Nate Ogle 11 to lead the scoring attack. Griffiths and Ogle had 8 rebounds apiece, and Ogle added 4 steals. Senior Dmitri Venets snagged 6 boards and dished out a team high 5 assists, while Griffiths had 4 helpers. Oosterbaan nailed all three of his triples and went 5-6 from the free throw line, part of a 21-24 team effort from the stripe. Mason was 15-16 on free throws in the fourth period as Heritage fouled trying to get back into the game.
The Mustangs open the home portion of their schedule Wednesday when they host AAA Freedom-South Riding at 7:30 at MEH.
